Julie Kaupu has been an active member since initiated
into the IBEW. Her most recent roles were Local Union
Representative, an appointment she accepted when offered by Business
Manager-Financial Secretry Harold Dias, Jr. in March 1998. She now serves
as the Assistant Business Manager to Scot Long as of March 2004.
After the strike between IBEW LU 1357 and Hawaiian
Telephone in 1974, Julie became a shop steward and remained a steward from
1975 until a staff appointment by a former business manager during
1978-1989, then resumed being steward from 1993-1998. While employed
with Hawaiian Tel, GTE and Verizon, Julie's simultaneous Union activities
ranged from holding Executive Committee member positions in both Units 1 and
3; Executive Board positions as a Hawaii Island Representative, Treasurer
and Recording Secretary; 4 time delegate to the International Convention as
well as delegate to the TCC-2, IBEW State Telephone Conference and 9th
District Progress Meetings.
She will always tell you that your Union is only as
strong as your participation. The Union is an organization of people with
the same cause in mind, that of fairness and equity in the
workplace-justice, rights and security. THE UNION IS YOU. |
