BUSINESS MANAGER'S REPORT

May 1, 2009

1.   IBEW members at Hawaiian Telcom have their TPA bonuses approved.  Last month, Judge King ruled that our members will receive their full bonus payout according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  It is a validation that IBEW 1357 members have worked hard to keep this business afloat.  Members will be receiving their payouts in their May 1st paychecks.

2.   We have been meeting with Customer Sales Support Representatives and trying to improve the working conditions inside the Center.  Along with Shop Stewards Stephanie Hao-Dahl and Tammy Ludington, we have been diligently addressing issues in the Center:

  • Training/rework/contractors/overtime

  • Systems/Greenies/Backlogs/Paper Tickets

  • Seniority issues

  • BOA/AHT/PUC requirements

  • Shutting down of the Hilo operations

  • Attendance

3.    IT&E Human Resource Director Shirley Dotts has agreed to meet with the Union to discuss IT&E’s incentive plans for our members.  With the help of Unit 10 Chairman Ray Tenorio and Executive Committee member Hector Venus, we will be having formal negotiations the week of May 16th.  Thank you to our two leaders for their tremendous support of our Union.

4.   The Union has been made aware that appraisals for members are currently being reviewed.  If there are conditions or terms of employment that are reflected in the review, please notify the Union office.

5.   Finally, as we work through some of the most difficult times in the history of our nation, the goal of my administration is to protect our members.  With the closing of businesses both nationally and locally, with Unions having to take unpaid leave or to make benefit concessions, we continue to fight for the best work force “bar none” in the nation.  We ask the Lord to continue to guide our Union and bless the working men and women of our nation.
